I wanted to write this letter in praise of Mr. Richard Van Vorce as an agent of your business and of the industry. Working with him after initially contacting your company about replacing an existing residential central AC unit, he never ignored our needs, never pushed us to purchase anything more than what we wanted (and needed), and was always prepared with follow up questions, answers, and literature as he walked us through a process. While my wife and I have established a relationship with Petcosky & Sons for some relatively simple plumbing jobs over the years, Mr. Van Vorce has sold us on working with your business for years to come for all of our HVAC needs as well, as today we made a down payment for a new Carrier Infinity heating and cooling system. Please know that we did so because we found him to be candid, trusting, and professional. We are sold on Petcosky & Sons and on the Carrier brand because of his knowledge of the products and services, his willingness to thoroughly explain all of our options, and his neighbor-next-door approach.
Our 15 year old AC unit has leaked about four pounds of refrigerant over the past two years; this prompted an online inquiry via your website as I began to investigate the options and costs for replacing the unit, including the compatibility of newer units with our existing furnace. While some of your local competitors immediately began to push new heating and AC systems without even suggesting a simpler repair, Rich’s first question to me was, “did [the other company] perform any tests?” My apparent puzzlement led to his follow-up explanation regarding how a technician would employ a dye test, further clarifying that it should have been done “since more than 30% of the refrigerant had apparently leaked.” The first 15 minutes or so of our conversation at my residence detailed how a tech could go about looking to identify a leak; Mr. Van Vorce came to my home not trying to get me to spend unnecessarily, but wisely. He offered to arrange a service call right then, without any additional sales or (presumably) benefit to himself, indicating that a test “could reveal a very simple problem and an inexpensive repair.” At this point he had earned my trust and I decided to inquire about replacing the entire unit. Again, Rich was upfront and professional, sharing a few products you sell and explaining how relatively easy a replacement would be —”it’s an in and out job” to replace and upgrade the existing unit to a 13 SEER AC that could easily be completed and connected to the existing furnace. Without being “a pushy salesman,” he answered all of my questions without leading me towards higher end, more expensive products. It was only after my inquiry for him to “flex his muscles” that he started to share the options that would help make my home more comfortable year-round while lowering my energy costs. After taking some measurements of the existing ductwork and furnace, he looked at me and simply asked me, “what can I do for you now?” I responded by asking for a few choices — the best, the better, and the good. And he did just that–he provided my wife and I with just what we requested, and nothing more. Again, he remained professional and acted more the consultant than the salesman.
In the end, my wife and I have contracted with Petcosky & Sons for a Carrier Infinity gas furnace with a 14 / 16 SEER Carrier heat pump, humidifier, and a 10 year commitment from your business. While the cost is much more than the initial $150 service call option, I never felt pressured by Rich to purchase more than I wanted. As I educated myself regarding today’s higher-end heating and AC products, he was very upfront about what would work in my modest home and what would be overkill. The pricing was very fair and competitive with other businesses and their brands, and he was flexible with warranty and thermostat pricing. Rich was very quick to respond to some questions I emailed him over the weekend as I explored additional options. All in all, I thought you should know about my experience because it exemplifies how well he represents himself, your business, and the Carrier brand. Additionally, his calm demeanor and professional approach must speak to the quality of the other employees of your business, and I look forward to establishing this working relationship with you and your staff for many years to come

We returned home last night about 7pm after visiting our Son in Atlanta, Ga.for the past ten days. Much to our surprise and regret our house was cold (53 degrees) Our furnace was not running, we had no heat. Not what you want when you just traveled all day. Thinking of your ads on the radio of how dependable Petcosky and Son’s were in emergencies, I called your office. They told me someone would call me back soon. Chris,called within twenty minutes. (I did not know he was coming from Afton) he asked what was going on, I explained, and he said he would be here in about 45 minutes. He WAS.
I took him down stairs to the furnace and I always like to stay and watch. He was a combination of a detective, scientist, mechanic and repair man. I found it fascinating watching him break down the furnace and examine places and parts. All very organized. He discovered “clues” which created mental images of causes and eventually he put them together to find a solution and even something in addition to prevent it from happening again. It took him a couple of hours and a trip back to the office for a part, to get it all fxed. He even took the time to answer my questions and explain what he was doing. Very polite, very professional. I could not have been more impressed. He even replaced a plastic tube with a cooper one to prevent a water leakage that shorted out the furnace. Said that works better. At my probing I asked if the problem could have occurred during the work done as part of my new platinum protection plan. The full cleaning of the furnace. He said it’s possible that tubing got pinched which could happen to anyone.
He can far better explain what he did but I wanted you to know how impressed I was with his demeanor and work habits and workmanship. Makes me glad I have been with you guys 20 years and that you came up with the new protection plan. Both deeply appreciated.

Had a great experience with Petcosky & Sons today. I called this morning (2 days before Thanksgiving) with a furnace that wasn’t keeping the house warm. Their service man (Chris) arrived hen they said he would, found the problem quickly (blower motor failing) removed it and installed a replacement. I would like to thank your heating specialist, Chris, for his outstanding work. Chris solved a problem that I have had with my heating system since 1998. Your company was the third heating company to attempt to fix it. I was ready to replace the system. My problem was I was not getting good water circulation. Each company gave the obvious answers – replace the pump and bleed air from the lines. The difference with Chris is that once he replaced the pump, he checked to see if the water circulation had improved. It had not. Chris was not satisfied that the problem was fixed. He read the installation and operating guide for the furnace and he called the factory representative. Chris’s tenacity helped find and fix the problem. Petcosky & Sons was awarded the Fire Sprinkler contract for a 20,000 square foot church addition. I was very impressed with the communication during the design phase all the way through the final installation. This church experienced numerous interior modifications from the initial design as this was a design/build project. Justin was always on top of these changes and advised on how his system would be impacted and costs associated with the modifications. Once changes were approved, the team moved quickly to catch back up and eventually ahead of schedule.
We have been in the construction business for almost 60 years and truly appreciate hard working with contractors like Petcosky. They are very fair and honest throughout the entire construction process. On site, the Petcosky team displayed a great deal of passion and strong work ethic. We’d like to extend our thanks to you and your team of plumbing experts.
We had an emergency situation with our old boiler (NOT installed by your company). As we understand it, there was an ignition delay that was causing excess gas build-up, which in turn caused frightening “WHOOMPS” in our basement when a thermostat called for heat. We decided to call your office and get a new furnace installed as soon as possible.
After our call on the morning of March 17th, we were pleased to see Rich V. arrive at our house around 9am to discuss the problem. He showed concern and was anxious to help. A few words about our impression of Rich – competent, knowledgeable, honest, compassionate and responsive. Obviously, we were quite impressed. He reviewed our options for a new boiler, and we were easily able to make a decision right away, adding in the new water heater as well. Rich explained that he couldn’t give us an installation date, but said the office would soon give us a call to set things up. We were pleasantly surprised and relieved soon after Rich left because we received a call asking us if it was OK to do the job early the next morning, 7:45 on the 18th.
March 18th arrived and we were ready. Rich arrived with the crack team of Chris, Carl and John. We asked how they managed to schedule us so quickly, and Rich explained that they shared our concern about our existing furnace. They did their work quietly and efficiently. By the end of the work day, the job was completed, and everything was cleaned and put in order before they left.
It’s been a week now, and the system seems to be running smoothly. We no longer have to worry about explosions in our basement. Instead of belching gas, the new furnace simply purrs.
In addition, Rich has continued to be responsive, answering several follow-up questions after the installation and helping with the NYSEG rebate forms. He even had some suggestions for the possible repair of an existing air conditioner we had installed in our bedroom some years ago by another company. (We’ve had repeated problems with it). If we have trouble again, we know who to call. We’ve had good success with your business for years, and this just renewed our confidence in your company and your personnel. We expect to contact you for all our future needs.

He introduced us to a system of heating and cooling for our home that we had never heard of. A system called Halcyon by a company known as Fujitsu.
Once he explained how it all worked and the available one year interest free financing, we made the decision to move forward with the project.
A short few weeks later, a Petcosky truck was in our driveway and our new Fujitsu heating and cooling system was being delivered. Two Petcosky technicians, Rob and Hank, were here to install our new system.
Both men went right to work. They knew what they were doing and worked well together. They were also knowledgeable about the system and didn’t hesitate to answer any of our questions that we had. They were friendly, courteous and likable. They went about their work diligently and prudently. Whenever a situation where something may look a little different as a result of the installation, they always looked for our approval before proceeding with their work. One more positive for these two men was that they cleaned up their work area each day.
The point of this note is to let you know how very pleased we are with our new heating and cooling system and the professional manner in which your people went about their work and clean up when they finished.

John and I just wanted to say thank you! We needed our central AC serviced, as it was not working to its potential. A few years ago we had a different company service our AC unit because they were closer to our home. What a mistake!!
